Kivisalo 'community village', yhteisökylä, is a new approach to build a community in countryside. It will be a village with emphasis on self sustainability and community.
It will as well be an experiment how to shift a privately owned farm to co-op and build both sense of community and infrastructure.
The 121 hectares farm, with forests agricultural land, and 5 km coastline is situated near the city of Kuopio, east of Finland.
Kivisalo project has received EU supported Leader+ fund for year 2005-2007. The project is seeking more people to participate and in future move on to the village. We see it most likely that within few decades there 150-200 people living in or near Kivisalo and forming sustainable settelement.
